Danielle Slupesky’s story highlights the power of surrender and acceptance, the perils of unconscious living, and how our lives are permeated with important messages that we often too easily miss. Hers is a story that will enlighten, challenge, and encourage anyone who listens.

In 2013, Danielle Slupesky came face-to-face with her own mortality through a prolonged, harrowing medical crisis. She barely survived, but in the midst of that crisis, had an NDE that transformed her life. No longer afraid of death and dying, she now works as an End-of-Life Guide and as a Death Doula based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Danielle’s story highlights the power of surrender and acceptance, the perils of unconscious living, and how our lives are permeated with important messages that we often too easily miss. Hers is a story that will enlighten, challenge, and encourage anyone who listens.

On Wednesday, June 11, at 7:00 pm Central Time, she will join IANDS live via Zoom from her home in Albuquerque to share a detailed account of her NDE and how it changed her. Please bring your curiosity and your questions for Danielle as we explore the significance of her experience for all of us.

About Danielle:Danielle Slupesky has dedicated her entire adult life to caring for others, beginning as an EMT when she was only 18 years old. She later went to college, earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and worked in the ER as an emergency nurse.

Several years ago, she found herself hospitalized for over three months, most of it in the ICU, and on a ventilator. She endured a series of daunting health challenges, including a blood clot in her lung, sepsis, kidney failure, and multiple abdominal surgeries resulting from a medical error – all culminating in a near-death experience (NDE). Even though she was surrounded by friends and family, she was terrified and felt alone. Her husband, an EMT himself, was completely overwhelmed and felt helpless. Being young, she had not yet completed any advance care planning, so he was forced to make medical decisions for her. After ten months at home managing an ileostomy and a large open wound, she underwent a complete abdominal wall reconstruction in April of 2014.

This profound journey taught her the art of surrender and filled her with an immense sense of compassion – for those facing a health crisis and/or end-of-life – and she was no longer afraid of death. She emerged from this experience with a mission to support others in embracing death as a natural part of life and to create a space where it’s okay to talk openly about it. She now works to educate others about their choices and options so that they can have a peaceful, personalized death experience. She’s learned that by discussing death, we can lessen our fear of it, and by planning, we can avoid unexpected outcomes.
